CHOKERS

The choker has taken on many shapes over the years, from wrapped ribbons of the French Revolution to beautiful beads of the Jazz Age to lace iterations of the 1990s. With choker necklaces coming in all shapes, sizes, and styles, you can add these to your jewelry collection knowing that there will always be an occasion to wear them – they’re so versatile!

HOW TO GET THE LOOK: While this style of necklace is called a choker, do not take the name literally – it shouldn’t feel restrictive, uncomfortable, or cause your skin to bulge out from the sides. A choker is meant to sit lightly on the neck, close enough to be right on top of the skin without constricting your breath. 

When wearing a choker, think about the type of neckline you’re wearing. Chokers on the wider side pair well with strapless or single strap tops, v-neck, or off-shoulder necklines, and ultra-sheer blouses. The exposed skin will prevent the look from appearing stuffy. On the other hand, slim chokers can be worn with higher necklines, such as boat neck or crew neck tops. 

A choker necklace is inevitably an attention-grabber, so try to keep your earrings simple if you choose to wear any; you can still wear multiple earrings if you have more than one piercing, but stud earrings and short drop earrings work best.

Pair your choker with a longer necklace to add some more dimension to your look!
